Hazardous Weather Outlook In Effect For Long Island

That slight chance of snow that had been in earlier forecasts for Friday will not materialize, but it's still a gloomy, wet day on Long Island, and there are flooding concerns for the region.

A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for the entire island, and coastal flood advisories will be in effect overnight for parts of the island as rain and gusty winds lash the area for a solid 24 hours.

For northern Nassau and northwestern Suffolk, a flood advisory runs from 1-4 a.m. Saturday. For southern Nassau and southwestern Suffolk, there's an advisory from 11 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday.

Minor flooding is possible for the northern sections of the island, while minor to moderate flooding could impact the southern portions.

"If heavy rain coincides with high tide tonight, localized moderate flooding with inundation of up to 2-feet is possible," the advisories say. "A few road closures may be needed."
