President Trump delivered the commencement address at West Point, outlining a new direction for the US military that prioritizes traditional defense objectives and ends diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs .
“The job of the US Armed Forces is not to host drag shows, to transform foreign cultures, but to dominate any foe and annihilate any threat to America, anywhere, anytime and any place,” Trump told the graduating cadets. He also criticized transgender athletes in women’s sports, reflecting broader culture war concerns raised during his second term.
Since returning to office, the Trump administration has moved to dismantle DEI-related hiring and training policies throughout the Defense Dept., including military academies like West Point.
Addressing the Class of 2025, Trump said, “This is the Golden Age. I tell you, promise, we’re in a new age,” and told graduates they are “going to lead the Army to summits of greatness.” He also promoted his proposed Golden Dome missile defense system and a $1 trillion military budget.
